A short recorded video interview run through SHL's Aspiring Minds platform, with prep time then a recording window per question. The same two questions every time, both about the service line you applied to rather than EY in general, so a generic Big Four answer fails twice.

About EY

One of the Big Four professional services firms, organised into Assurance, Consulting, Strategy and Transactions, and Tax. Most UK graduate routes come with a professional qualification such as the ACA, and you apply to a specific service line rather than to EY as a whole.

The process

  1. 1
    Application

Online application to a specific service line and office.

  2. 2
    Online assessments

EY's online stages have varied by year and route, so treat the video interview below as the part of this page we have verified for this cycle.

  3. 3
Recorded video interviewConfirmed · 2027 cycle

Run on SHL's Aspiring Minds platform. The question appears as text on the left while a short EY video plays alongside it, then a Prepare your response timer runs before recording starts. Both questions reported this cycle are scoped to the service line you applied to.

  4. 4
    Assessment centre

Later stages typically include a case or group exercise and a partner interview. We have not verified this cycle's format, so prepare the video questions as the known quantity.

What EY screens for

  • A reason for EY that would not read identically for the other three
  • Genuine understanding of the service line you applied to, not professional services in general
  • Two evidenced skills rather than a list of adjectives
  • Awareness of the professional qualification and what committing to it means

The AI marks your answers against this emphasis — not just a generic rubric.

Two questions, both about your service line rather than EY

Reported from a candidate's own 2027 sitting. The thing to take from it is that neither question is really about EY as a firm: one asks what interests you about EY and the career you would build there, the other asks which skills would let you do well in the specific area you applied to. Both are marked against how well you understand that service line, so research the work itself, the kind of clients it serves and the qualification attached to it, rather than reading the firm's About Us page. Both come up every time and in this order, so there is nothing else to prepare. One thing not to be thrown by: the platform labels the first video Question 2 on screen, because its numbering counts earlier parts of the assessment, so seeing Question 2 come up first is normal and does not mean you have skipped anything.

What a strong answer covers ↓

Shape your future is EY's own slogan, which is the trap: repeating it back is the one answer every assessor has heard that day. Build the answer in three parts instead. First the service line, because you applied to one and that is what is being marked: say what the work actually involves and what draws you to it, whether that is the rhythm of an audit cycle and the access it gives you to how businesses really run, the deal work in Strategy and Transactions, or the technical depth of Tax. Second, why EY rather than the other three, and this has to be concrete, so reach for something you can point at: a piece of EY's published work you have read, the structure of its graduate route, a conversation with someone there and what they actually told you, or the sector strength in the office you applied to. If swapping in Deloitte or KPMG leaves the sentence true, it is not a reason. Third, the career part the question explicitly asks for: name the qualification you would be studying for and say you understand it means several years of exams alongside full time work, then where you would want to be after it. Avoid culture, people and global network, which are true everywhere and therefore say nothing.

Name one or two skills that would allow you to do well in this specific area of EY.

What a strong answer covers ↓

The question caps you at two, so giving five is a failed answer before the content is even judged. Pick two, and pick them against the work rather than against your CV. For Assurance that is usually professional scepticism, meaning the habit of asking what would have to be true for this number to be right, and accuracy held under deadline pressure. For Consulting it is structuring a vague problem into parts you can actually test, and explaining a conclusion to someone who has not seen your working. For Strategy and Transactions it is comfort with financial analysis under time pressure and judgment about which number actually moves the decision. For Tax it is precise technical reading and the discipline to follow a rule exactly. Then evidence each one, because a named skill with no proof is an adjective: one short, specific instance where you used it and what came of it. Finish by linking the skill back to the client, since every one of these lines exists to tell a client something they can act on. If you have a gap, naming it briefly and saying what you are doing about it reads as self aware rather than underprepared, but only if you have time after the two skills are properly made.
