The process

  1. 1
    Application & online tests

Online application plus aptitude tests (numerical and more), completed within about seven days of the invitation.

  2. 2
    HireVue video interview

One way video. For the 2027 cycle it is always six questions, drawn from a rotating pool, so no two applicants get the same set. Every question is required and re-recording is disabled, meaning each answer is a single take. Mostly behavioural with a couple of commercial questions and a cultural fit focus. Used across spring weeks and summer internships.

  3. 3
    Assessment centre

Several back to back interviews, virtual or in person, mixing behavioural and technical questions. Investment bank first rounds usually include two or three technicals such as DCF and enterprise versus equity value.

What UBS screens for

  • A specific reason for UBS, often its position as the world's largest wealth manager
  • The behaviours it assesses: accountability with integrity, collaboration, innovation
  • The principles: client centricity, connectivity, sustainable impact
  • Commercial awareness and how you stay current with the markets
  • Clear fundamentals at the assessment centre: DCF, enterprise versus equity value, the three statements

The AI marks your answers against this emphasis — not just a generic rubric.

Six questions, drawn from a rotating pool, one take each

Confirmed from 2027 cycle UBS video interviews. Every candidate gets six questions, but they are drawn from a rotating pool, so no two applicants get the same six. Treat the eight below as the pool rather than a running order. The introduction question has opened every set we have seen. Two things to note: re-recording is disabled, so every answer is a single take, and UBS now asks directly about how you use AI and how you catch its mistakes, which is new for this cycle.

Please introduce yourself and tell us what motivated you to apply to UBS and to this specific business area?

What a strong answer covers ↓

This one has opened every reported set, so it is the answer worth scripting. Three parts and do not let the introduction eat the whole thing. For why UBS, say something only true of UBS: the world's largest wealth manager, the Swiss heritage and balance sheet stability, or the Credit Suisse integration and what it created. For why this business area, show you know what the job actually involves day to day. Strong answers connect all three so your background, the firm and the division read as one line of reasoning rather than three paragraphs.

What unique strengths do you believe UBS Global Banking has that set us apart from other global investment banks?

    HireVueCommon

What a strong answer covers ↓

Harder than a standard why UBS because it asks you to compare, and it names Global Banking specifically. Pick two or three genuine differentiators and defend them: the wealth management franchise giving the investment bank a client base no pure bulge bracket has, the post Credit Suisse scale in Europe, the Swiss capital position, or a sector where UBS genuinely leads. Then say what that means for a client choosing UBS over a competitor. Avoid listing generic strengths like global reach or great people, which are true of every bank on the list.

Tell us about a recent M&A deal that interested you.

    HireVueVery common
    Confirmed 2026–27
What a strong answer covers ↓

Pick a deal from the last few months that you can actually defend, ideally one UBS advised on or one in a sector you claim to follow. Cover the basics fast: who bought whom, roughly how much, cash or stock. Then spend the time on what separates candidates: the strategic rationale, how it was financed, and whether you think it was a good price. Have a view. Know the approximate multiple and be ready for a follow up on synergies or accretion. A deal you cannot value is a deal you did not really read about.

Tell us about a time when you worked with people across different teams. What was your role, and how did you collaborate to achieve the outcome?

    HireVueCommon

What a strong answer covers ↓

Maps to the UBS collaboration behaviour of delivering one UBS together. The prompt asks two things explicitly, so answer both: your role, and how you collaborated. Cross team is the operative word, so make clear the other groups had different priorities or incentives to yours, and say how you handled that friction. A story where everyone already agreed does not demonstrate collaboration.

Tell us about a time when you stood up for what you felt was right, in the face of challenge. Why was this so important to you?

    HireVueCommon
    Confirmed 2026–27
What a strong answer covers ↓

This is the integrity question and it maps to accountability with integrity. Pick a real conflict where speaking up cost you something, then be specific about who you pushed back against and what you actually said. The second half is graded too, so answer why it mattered to you and name the principle, not just the outcome. Do not pick a story where you were obviously right and everyone agreed immediately, and do not pick one that makes you sound difficult rather than principled.

Tell us about a time when you went above and beyond.

    HireVueVery common
    Confirmed 2026–27
What a strong answer covers ↓

Establish the baseline expectation first, because without it nothing sounds above and beyond. Then the extra thing you chose to do, unprompted, and what it cost you. Quantify the result. Ownership of the outcome matters as much as the effort.

Tell us about a time when you responded to new information or shifting priorities.

    HireVueVery common
    Confirmed 2026–27
What a strong answer covers ↓

Adaptability under a live deadline. Be specific about what changed and when it landed, then show the judgement call: what you dropped, what you kept, who you told. Reprioritising is a decision, so say why you ranked things the way you did. Ending with what you would watch for next time reads as maturity rather than luck.

Tell us about a time you used AI and avoided an error.

    HireVueVery common
    Confirmed 2026–27
What a strong answer covers ↓

New for this cycle and the one most candidates have not prepared. UBS is testing judgement, not enthusiasm. Name the actual tool and the actual task, then get to the point of the question: the mistake it made or nearly made, how you caught it, and what you checked it against. Real examples work well here, such as a model output that looked plausible but broke a sanity check, a citation that did not exist, or a summary that dropped a caveat. Land on the principle you now work by: AI drafts, you verify, and you stay accountable for anything that goes out under your name. Saying you do not use AI is a weak answer, and so is saying you trust it.
