The 30-second take
Germany's blue-chip index — heavy in autos (VW, BMW, Mercedes), chemicals (BASF) and industrials (Siemens). Very sensitive to China demand and global trade cycles. When the DAX is weak, it's often a signal about Eurozone industrial activity, not just equities. Pair with EUR/USD and the most recent ECB commentary for a complete European read. A strong DAX during a weak euro often means German exporters are being bid.
